SUMMARY:Mental Health for Emerging Adult
DESCRIPTION:Whether a final-year student is contemplating continuing their education after high school or venturing into other professional development opportunities outside of college\, there are many complicated feelings that they could be experiencing related to this transitional period. Between schoolwork\, extracurricular events\, hanging out with friends\, and part-time jobs\, students are also thinking of where they hope to be after graduation. Regardless of their chosen path or knowledge of what path they are choosing\, students will understand and be able to apply the basic levels of resource management and wellness maintenance in adulthood after completing this workshop. Although all high-school age levels are encouraged to attend\, this event has been designed for rising high school seniors and recent graduates to address key topics affecting students’ mental health and their ability to manage increased independence after high school.  \n \nNaomi Mack (she/her) was born in Clearwater and grew up in Palm Harbor\, Florida. She currently resides in Tampa and is a counseling practicum student working towards earning her master’s degree in counseling with a concentration in clinical mental health from Wake Forest University. Naomi is committed to providing a safe\, empathic space for her clients. She empowers them by validating their experiences and collaborating with them to build resilience\, promote wellness\, and achieve holistic growth through open dialogue and non-judgmental support. She is enthusiastic about the intersection of mental\, physical\, and environmental health\, and aspires to continue education in horticultural therapy and integrated approaches to care in the future.

Come and learn about ways to cope with stress\, anxiety\, and other mental health challenges that many teens face. It’s a fantastic opportunity to connect with others who may be going through similar experiences. \nAbout Guest Speaker: Kathryn Averyheart is a Chicago native but has spent the past ten years living here in Tampa with her two children\, 10 year old Jayne and 23 year old Aaron. They have a beagle\, Gryffindor\, adopted during Covid. Kathryn has been volunteering with AFSP off and on since 2006. She worked on the Chicago walk in a fundraising and day of support capacity for four or five years\, and has been supporting here in Tampa for the last 18 months. She recently was honored to accept a position as secretary on the board.  Kathryn believes talking about mental health and shining a light on suicide prevention is key to stopping suicide – and helping survivors. She’s grateful to be a small part of that giant task. In addition to AFSP Kathryn is a member of Tampa Bay Tech’s membership committee\, CDW’s Tampa area charitable group\, and recently became a volunteer with her daughter \, at the Humane society. DESCRIPTION:Part Two of 6-week Series \nWe are offering a six-week\, in-person women’s empowerment group titled ‘Trending Topics: For Today’s Women’\, with the second topic being ‘Strengthening Relationships to reduce loneliness’. \nHave you ever wondered: Why am I alone? Why does this hurt? Is anyone else feeling this way? These are questions that many people face when experiencing loneliness and isolation. Yet\, how we deal with loneliness can impact its effect. Join us as we discuss the ingredients of healthy relationships not just with others\, but with ourselves. It is possible to enhance the quality of existing relationships\, and the journey may begin here. \nYou are invited to attend any or all of the sessions and feel free to bring your lunch. There is no charge for the meetings\, and beverages will be provided. \nAbout the Speaker: \nElodia is a mental health counselor at the Centre For Women where she works with individuals and couples across the age span. Her specific areas of interest are in neuroplasticity and non-pharmacological interventions to help reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety. Elodia holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a Master of Science in Psychology\, and will complete a Master of Arts in Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling from the University of South Florida in May. Elodia’s academic focus and masters thesis focused on coping skills courses for university and college students. She currently is involved in research pertaining to innovative design interventions to benefit people seeking mental health care.
